Senior Low Income Housing for my Grandmother?

I’m searching for a place for my grandmother to stay but she has low income and it hard to find a place mainly cause she needs a walk in shower or walk in tub i don’t know what to do i don’t even know where to start i’m thinking maybe she can get some government help on living i don’t know who to call or what to ask i would love for her to be in a house but she cant afford more then $800 a month thats including bills any advice would help she doesn’t need assisted living just a place to live i looked at some adult living apartment but the pricing i have seen are outrageous if anyone knows who i should call and what i should ask for or what form i need to fill out that would be great help Thanks :)

There is government help in the form of subsidies for low income seniors for certain apartments. They are known as reduced-rent or affordable senior apartments. She wont be able to get a Section 8 voucher because of the long wait times for that but if she can pay up to $800 she can find a 1-bdrm or in many locations a 2-bdrm. But senior apartments generally give one person a 1-bdrm because the rents are already reduced in senior apartments and they are designed for seniors with a grab bar in the tub, planned activities, possibly transportation to doctors and shopping.

You have to look at independent living senior apartments. Even in my area of California there are senior apartments for $700 a month. If you are looking at assisted living that costs $2500 a month and she has to qualify for Medicaid in order to get into those facilities. Why can’t she rent a normal 2 or 2 bedroom apartment if she doesnt need assistance? All she needs is an elevator building or a ground floor apartment. She would be allowed to modify the bathroom if they dont have a disabled tub if she pays for it. Look for apartments with disabled units or handicapped units which are roomier for wheelchairs and have walk-in tubs.
